I have new RPi3 everything seems to work fine except the fact that I can not connect to it via ssh from my laptop with Ubuntu I have enabled the ssh on raspberry pi and I can establish the connection see information below but it gets closed immediately.

To this end I've configured dnsmasq to identify it by its hardware address and to assign it a domain and IP. However after trying a lot of different configurations on both the rpi and the dns server, I keep getting the ssh: connect to host One thing I did notice was that at some point, I did manage to ssh in, and shortly after I attempted to scp over my public key to use pubkey authentication instead, and I got the following error message:.

And right after that I was suddenly unable to ssh in again, getting the same Connection refused message above. I just had this issue, I was able to fix it by running sudo raspi-configthen going to Advancedthen Change Hostnamethen Reboot. I just wanted to point out. The SD format tool wasn't working for me. The new Pi 2 needs an SD with 2 partitions.

The tools create 2 fat32 partitions, which will work until you try to enable ssh, as fat doesn't handle permissions properly and the ssh rsa keys will have as their permissions and you cannot change them. Make sure you have your second partition as ext2, 3 or 4. Sign up to join this community.

First, check whether there are already keys on the computer you are using to connect to the Raspberry Pi:. Upon entering this command, you'll be asked where to save the key.

You'll also be asked to enter a passphrase. This is extra security which will make the key unusable without your passphrase, so if someone else copied your key, they could not impersonate you to gain access. I have a hunch that it has something to do with the fact that I previously ssh-ed into a different raspberry pi with the exact same hostname and username, but I don't know how to fix it so that I can access this one and probably rename it to avoid this problem in the future.

Passwordless SSH access

I tried doing ssh-keygen -R raspberrypi. Is there more I need to do to remove it? I'm also using a mac running on Sierra I tried looking through similar issues but couldn't find anything that worked. I believe the problem is that the keypair files that are generated on first boot were corrupt perhaps from plugging and unplugging power during the setup process. I ended up installing dpkg via homebrew, and re-flashing the SSD card and then it worked.

Not really sure why it was so finicky but helpful information in case anyone else runs into a similar issue. Learn more. Asked 2 years, 5 months ago. Active 1 year, 11 months ago. Viewed 28k times.
