Thank you very much for these tips. I will be trying them out on a butane torch that I was going to throw away. Maybe I can save it! I just went out and spent 50 bucks on a damn torch and NO butane or adapters will make it fill without leaking half the damn can out, and I cannot afford that haha. Idk what to do, I can't return it and I would rather throw it at the ground and break it then keep paying for wasted butane.

Turn the gas dial to maximum and try lighting again. My torch has been working fine for the last couple months, but i went to fill it today and the "hiss" sound before lighting it wasn't there? No flame without a "hiss" right? What do I do? I purchased a proxxon butane torch in June.

Am using triple refined butane. The torch just quits while in the middle of project. It is not empty because have filled It right before.

And the igniter is very temperamental. Half the time have to keep on pushing igniter ten or so times before it works. All inside the tip Can you help me. Guess I need to find some sort of alert feature to let me know when people post on this page of my blog! LOL Yes, butane torches can be temperamental and frustrating - but hey! So, of course we have to live with some quirks and sometimes you just have to replace the torch. Or as I call it, opportunity for an upgrade. Let me answer some of the previous posts.

Jennifer and the Leaky Butane: Been there with a big wet leaky refill. It usually still fills but it's just as ridiculous and frustrating as Jennifer posts.

Luckily it doesn't happen too often. First choice if this happens to you: return the torch. In this piece, I want to include some of my own experiences with torch lighters. I am a lighter collector, of sorts. I probably own more lighters than the average cigar smoker and I have found that butane torch lighters can be very finicky.

Many people report problems with their torch lighters, from short flame, to inconsistent lighting, to not working at all.

If you are careful to observe some simple practices, I think you can reduce the majority of your problems with lighters. Also in this article, I will provide the steps I use when refilling my lighters. The most important tip I can give you that will make a huge difference is to use top quality butane.

There is no advantage to getting butane at bargain basement prices. The best butane will burn clean and will keep the jets in good working order. I buy butane that has been refined a minimum of five times, but you can use butane that is triple-refined or above. You will usually see the number of refinings on the outside of the butane cannister. When filling your lighter, be sure to bleed or purge out all excess butane and air from the lighter. You don't want air bubbles to remain in the fuel chamber.

Use a very small screwdriver to push in the valve. I have found that turning the lighter right-side-up with refill valve pointing toward the ground helps bleed the last bit of air out. Don't Push the Flame too Close to Cigar. When you use your lighter, be sure to keep the jets away from the ash on your cigar. My brother-in-law has a nasty habit of pushing a torch flame lighter right into the foot of the cigar, which runs the risk of getting ashes into the lighter jets and clogging them up, not to mention burning oneself.

I've warned him many times but he continues to burn the hell out of his fingers and eyebrows because he doesn't believe me that the flame is 2-inches long and he doesn't need to put the lighter too close to the cigar. In fact, torch flame lighters give the greatest heat at the very tip of the flame, so don't jam the flame into the foot of your cigar. If your butane torch or lighter stops working, you should also make sure you are using the correct grade and brand of butane.

One of the symptoms of lower grade fuel is flickering or sputtering of the flame, this symptom can also be caused by air in the fuel cell which can be resolved by removing the air.

Butane torches these days are generally equipped with instant electronic ignition systems and these have a reputation for being reliable technology. The first is to try and regulate the flow of gas because it may be too low for optimal ignition.

You can turn the gas output all the way up then turn it back after the gas is ignited. What can occasionally happen though is if you are using the torch for soldering, a tiny piece of solder may become lodged and stuck in the nozzle.

To fix your torch, you will need to turn the torch off and remove the offending particle s of solder. One way to clean out the nozzle is to shoot compressed air into the nozzle area where the gas exits the torch.

This may dislodge any foreign matter that is causing the suboptimal performance. Filling a butane torch can generally be accomplished quickly and using the best quality butane will always help your torch to function at its optimal level.

General care in looking after portable tools such as keeping them clean and in good order will also help to ensure the longevity of your torch. Looking for a new torch? Here is my Top 10 Butane Torch list. The refill port on my Blazer leaks.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

July Try to blow out the top of your tourch with some compressed air sometimes you will get something stuck in there. But most likely its shot. Oh yaaa! Try turning your lighter upside down and pulling the ignition. There could be a particle blocking the spark to ignite the fuel.

Okay, first thing I would do is check to make sure there is no blockage between the igniter and the side of the lighter, if thee is something in there the piezo electric won't get a good path for spark, and won't spark, if there is nothing in there I would take a jewellers screwdriver or a ball point pen and push down on the part sticking out that should spark where the rod sticks out of sometimes in usage that will slide out and not get good contact.

You can usually fix these things by tinkering with it, its a pretty simple system, good luck. Ere the lamp of Krieg went out! LOL Hope you get it fixed bro. Well, if it's not fixable, you have a warranty on it, right?

This will fix the flame when it is shooting out of weird directions or coming out in the way of a flame instead of torch. Did you use this instructable in your classroom? Add a Teacher Note to share how you incorporated it into your lesson. Blow lightly both ways inside the torch tip but be careful when you are blowing the opposite direction of the way that the fuel comes out because there is A valve stem thing that can be blown out of place.

As I did so myself lol. A torch fill should take no longer than seconds. To get a maximum fill, put the torch in the fridge for 10 minutes before filling. Warm the fuel can with your hands, or by putting it in your pocket for a while. This way, you will get a maximum fill every time.

Filling a warm torch will lead to a poor fill. Doing this every time leads to a much longer torch life. Question 8 months ago on Introduction. Question 9 months ago on Step 1. Question 1 year ago. Answer 10 months ago. I recently bought two pencil torches and followed your instructions. I lit the torches and they both have a flame like a lighter than like a torch. What needs to be done in order to fix this issue. If anything. If you want the torch to stay unblocked and work properly for a long time do this when it's new.

Unscrew the top nozzle, it's locktited on so if it's stubborn heat the nozzle with a cigarette lighter to soften the locktite and then turn anticlockwise to remove.

Get a piece of multistrand electric wire and strip off the insulation to leave bare straight multiwire. Cut off a 25mm length and push this into the gas feeder tube the tube below where you screwed off the nozzle.
